Cabaret Singer David Gurland Dies After Suffering Massive Brain Hemorrhage

Award-winning cabaret singer David Gurland passed away on January 1, after having suffered a massive brain hemorrhage in New York City on December 29. He was 43 years old.

During his career, Gurland performed at such venues as the Laurie Beechman Theatre, BB KINGS, The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, The Living Room, Downtime, CB's Gallery, The Metropolitan Room, Eighty-Eights, The Duplex , Don't Tell Mama, The Triad, and The Gardenia, among many others. He was also a member of the acclaimed vocal group Uptown Express.

Gurland's honors include the MAC Hanson Award and the Back Stage Bistro Award.

He is survived by his partner, actor Rob Maitner, his parents Evelyn and Gerry Gurland, his brother James Gurland and James' wife Leslie, and his nephew Ariel.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 5 at Temple Sharey Tefilo - Israel in South Orange, New Jersey.
