The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced that Julie Taymor will be eligible for a Tony Award in the category of Best Direction of a Musical for her work in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. After a much-publicized preview period, Taymor was sidelined from the musical with Philip William McKinley being brought on board to implement new staging prior to the show’s official press opening. In the program, she is credited with “original direction.”

It has also been announced that Spider-Man‘s Reeve Carney and Jennifer Damiano will be eligible in lead categories for their work in the show.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee also considered the eligibility of the Master Class revival, determining Tyne Daly will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress in Leading Role in a Play category, and the revival of Follies, ruling that Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein, and Ron Raines will be eligible in lead categories and all others in featured.

All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2011-2012 season to decide the eligibility for the 2012 Tony Awards.
