Tony Award winner Sutton Foster will play Fay Apple in the City Center Encores! production of the 1964 musical Anyone Can Whistle by Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents, to run April 8-11. Tony winner Casey Nicholaw will direct the production. Additional casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

The season will begin with Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks helming a revival of the 1930 musical Girl Crazy, featuring a score by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, to run November 19-22. In 2009, Marc Bruni will direct the 1954 musical Fanny, to run February 4-7. The show, which is based on Marcel Pagnol’s novels about a young girl who falls in love with a sailor, features a score by Harold Rome and a book by Joshua Logan and S.N. Behrman.

Foster is currently appearing in Shrek: The Musical. She won the Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie and has appeared on Broadway in such shows as The Drowsy Chaperone (which was directed and choreographed by Nicholaw) and Little Women.
