Andrew Garfield, Philip Seymour Hoffman, et al. Set for Broadway Revival of Death of a Salesman

Stage and screen star Andrew Garfield will join Philip Seymour Hoffman and Linda Emond in a Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, according to a published reports. Mike Nichols will direct the production, which is slated during the 2011-2012 season.

Garfield, who will play Biff Loman, appeared in the film The Social Network and stars in the title role of The Amazing Spider-Man. He has worked frequently on the British stage.

Hoffman will play Willy Loman. His stage credits include Tony-nominated performances in Long Day’s Journey Into Night and True West. He is one of the founding members of LAByrinth Theater Company, where his credits include the premiere of Jack Goes Boating and, most recently, Othello, co-produced with the Public Theater. Hoffman won an Academy Award for Capote, and received Oscar nominations for his performances in Doubt and Charlie Wilson’s War.

Emond’s Broadway credits include her Tony Award nominated performance in Life x 3 and 1776. Off-Broadway, she has been seen in Homebody/Kabul, A Spanish Play, The Dying Gaul, and The Winter’s Tale.

Nichols has won seven Tony Awards for directing Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, Plaza Suite, Luv, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, The Real Thing, and Monty Python’s Spamalot, and one for producing Annie. His most recent Broadway credit was directing the revival of Clifford Odets’ The Country Girl. Nichols’ other film credits include The Graduate, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Carnal Knowledge, and The Birdcage.
