The Vineyard Theatre will produce a new version of the Alan Jay Lerner-Burton Lane musical On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, beginning performances January 2011. This production has been reconceived and will be directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, and will feature a new book by Peter Parnell based on the original by Lerner.

As previously reported, this new version, which has the approval of the Lerner and Lane estates, will be presented as part of Vassar & New York Stage and Film’s Powerhouse Theater summer season, July 29-August 1. It will reportedly play around with gender and reimagine the show’s central love triangle.

The musical’s noted songs include “Come Back to Me”, “What Did I Have That I Don’t Have?” “She Wasn’t You” “Hurry! It’s Lovely Up Here” “Melinda” and the title tune.

Casting and additional creative team for the Vineyard production are to be announced.
