Wallace Shawn to Be Honored at New Group Gala, Hosted by Kristen Johsnton, Frank Whaley

Playwright Wallace Shawn, along with Fred Wistow, will be honored with The Michael Mendelson Award for Outstanding Commitment to Theater at The New Group’s annual gala, to be held on Monday, May 9 at Capitale. Kristen Johnston and Frank Whaley will host the event.

In addition to tributes to Shawn and Wistow, the evening will include a cocktail reception, dinner, an auction and entertainment. A lineup of performers for the event will be announced shortly.


Shawn’s plays include Marie and Bruce, Aunt Dan and Lemon, The Fever, and The Designated Mourner. In 2009 he published his first book of non-fiction, Essays by Wallace Shawn. Wistow is a former member of the board for The New Group and currently serves as chairman of the Psychotherapy Network, Inc.
