A new adaptation of the 1982 movie Starstruck is heading for the Australian stage, according to Time Out Sydney.

Gillian Armstrong's film tells the story of two teenagers trying to break into the music business. The musical is being developed by producer Gary McQuinn (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Australian record producer Michael Gudinski, whose label Mushroom Records will provide songs for the production, as well as the National Institute of Dramatic Art, which will workshop the production in late 2019 featuring the school's graduating class.

The current creative team for Starstruck includes Mitchell Butel (book), Simon Phillips (director), Andrew Hallsworth (choreographer), and Tony winner Brian Thomson (scenic design).
