Deborah Voigt, Rod Gilfry to Star in Glimmerglass Opera’s Annie Get Your Gun; Anne Bogart, Nathan Gunn, David Pittsinger Also Part of Season

Deborah Voigt will play Annie Oakley, Rod Gilfry will play Frank Butler and Jake Gardner will be Buffalo Bill Cody in the Glimmerglass Opera Festival’s production of Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, to run July 16 – August 21, 2011. Francesca Zambello will direct the production, which will be conducted by Kevin Stites and feature scenic and costume design by Court Watson.

The company has also announced other creative details for its 2011 season. Zambello and Watson will also collaborate on the previously announced A Blizzard in Marblehead Neck (July 21 – August 22), which features a music by Jeanine Tesori and a libretto by Tony Kushner. The piece will be seen on a double bill with John Musto and Mark Campbell’s Later the Same Evening, which will feature Gardner, along with Patricia Schuman.

Additionally, the previously reported production of Bizet’s Carmen (July 2 – August 23) will be directed by Anne Bogart and will feature Ginger Costa-Jackson in the title role. Michael Barker-Caven will direct Cerunbini and Hoffman’s Medea, which will feature Broadway veteran David Pittsinger as King Creon and Alexandra Deshorties in the title role.


Glimmerglass has also announced two special cabaret performances. On July 29, Voigt will premiere a new program that she has developed with Zambello and Terrence McNally. and on August 12, Nathan Gunn will perform a concert, accompanied by his wife, Julie Gunn.
