Kevin Daniels to Star as "Magic" Johnson in Broadway’s Magic Bird

Kevin Daniels will star as Earvin “Magic” Johnson in Broadway’s Magic Bird. Thomas Kail is set to direct the production of in the spring of 2012, although the show has not yet set an opening date or announced a theater.

Daniels, who played basketball in high school, previously appeared on Broadway in Twelfth Night, with other stage credits including Up Against the Wind at New York Theater Workshop, and RFK: Journey to Justice at LA Theatre Works. Film credits include Ladder 49 and And Then Came Love, and he has a reoccurring role on the ABC comedy Modern Family.

As previously reported, Tug Coker will star opposite Daniels as Larry Bird. Additional casting will be announced at a future date.

The show is written by Eric Simonson and chronicles the rivalry, friendship, and intertwined life stories of NBA stars Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

The creative team will include David Korins (set), Howell Binkley (lighting), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Nevin Steinberg (sound) and Wendall K. Harrington (projections).
