Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda will join the New York City Center Encores! production of Merrily We Roll Along, to be presented February 8-19. James Lapine will direct, with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges.

Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, this musical about friendship and the compromise of youthful ideals, is based on the 1934 play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The show moves backwards in time from 1980 to 1955 and examines the lives of three people whose friendship is tested by time, events, ambition and fate.

As previously announced, the cast will also include Colin Donnell, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Elizabeth Stanley, and Betsy Wolfe.

Miranda, who will play Charley Kringas, won a Tony Award for his score for In the Heights, as well as a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in the show. Among his film and television credits are The Sopranos, House, Modern Family, as well as the forthcoming The Odd Life of Timothy Green and 200 Cartas.
