The New Victory Theater has announced its programming for its Spring 2012 season, which will kick off with a mini-festival entitled Zoem! New Dutch Theater, January 6-29. The program will include four U.S. premieres all performed in English: Rumplestiltskin by Stella Den Haag; Miss Ophelia by Het Filiaal; Hands Up! by Lejo; and a stage adaptation of Wuthering Heights by Theater Artemis.

Next up will be the U.S. premiere of Brazil! Brazil! (February 10-26), a South American celebration that blends the rhythms of Rio Carnaval with acrobatics and soccer-inspired street dance. It will be followed by the New York premiere of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (March 2-11), adapted by Laura Eason from the novel by Mark Twain.

Henry Krieger, Bill Russell, and Jeffrey Hatcher’s musical Lucky Duck will receive its New York premiere, March 16-25. The piece is a satirical makeover of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling. The Do Jump! ensemble will return to the New Victory with Ahhh HA!, fusing physical skill, comedy and moments of heart-stopping beauty, set to live music by the Afro-Hebrew ensemble Klezmocracy.

Neil Armfield will direct The Book of Everything (April 20-29), based on the Dutch novel by Guus Kuijer. In it, Thomas Klopper takes amazing journeys through his imagination, where tropical fish swim in Amsterdam’s canals, hailstorms rage in mid-summer, and every so often, Jesus stops by. This one comes from Australia, as does Plop! (April 26 – May 13), based on the children’s book, The Terrible Plop, by Ursula Dubosarksy. This participatory play for young children is filled with tricks and traps, gadgets and gizmos, rhythm and rhyme, and a chance for everyone to dance.

The season will conclude with Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company’s 8cho (May 4-20), set in a sultry Argentine nightspot. Seven dancers perform solo, in pairs and as an ensemble, experimenting with speed and space to create surreal thrills.
