Valerie Harper to Launch Looped National Tour at Bushnell Theatre
The play takes place in a sound studio in 1965 to which Bankhead has been summoned to re-record (or "loop") one line of dialogue for what would be her last film, Die, Die My Darling. However, Bankhead arrives for the session inebriated and ends up in a showdown with an uptight and conservative sound editor.
The play debuted in 2008 at the Pasadena Playhouse and ran in 2010 at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre, earning Harper a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play.
The creative team includes Adrian W. Jones (scenic design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Michael Gilliam (lighting design), and Michael Hooker (sound design).
