Valerie Boyle to Play Mrs. Brill in Broadway’s Mary Poppins

Valerie Boyle will join the Broadway company of Mary Poppins,, playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre on December 4, assuming the role of Mrs. Brill.

Mary Poppins marks Boyle’s Broadway debut. She originated the role of Mrs. Brill with the North American touring company of the show and her other theater credits include her one-woman Sophie Tucker: Last of the Red Hot Mamas and Nunsense and Nunsense II. Among her feature film and TV credits: The Pacifier, Loser, Caveman’s Valentine, Degrassi – The Next Generation, and Disney’s Jett Jackson.

Mary Poppins is based on P.L. Travers’ stories and the 1964 Walt Disney film. The musical features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, a book by Julian Fellowes, and new songs and additional music and lyrics from George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. The production has been directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne. The creative team includes Bob Crowley (scenic and costume design), and Howard Harrison (lighting design), William David Brohn, and music supervision by David Caddick.

The musical currently stars Laura Michelle Kelly in the title role and Christian Borle as Bert, along with Jeff Binder (Mr. Banks), Rebecca Luker (Mrs. Banks), Ann Arvia (Bird Woman), Mark Price (Robertson Ay), Ruth Gottschall (Miss Andrew) and Michael McCarty (Admiral Boom). Juliette Allen Angelo, Kelsey Fowler and Cassady Leonard alternate as Jane Banks; Jeremiah Kissane, Matthew Schechter and Andrew Shipman alternate as Michael Banks.
