May 2, 2013 - New York theater company Waterwell has announced plans, as well as master class artists, for its first annual Summer Theater Lab. Actress Megan Hilty (Smash), Tony Award-winning creator and star of In the Heights Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Oscar-nominated House of Cards writer Beau Willimon will lead the program's master classes.
The lab, which will run in two sessions, July 15-August 3 and August 5-24, will offer middle and high school students from across the country the opportunity to engage in a focused training program. Over the course of the summer, the lab will showcase new works by some of the American theater's rising voices and build the catalogue of quality age-appropriate material for theaters and schools.
Director and educator Victor Maog will lead the program. In a statement, Maog said, "When you create a safe space for young people that incubates ideas, values leadership, and pioneers new work, the very best comes out."
