Leading-Lady Casting Announced for Broadway's On the Town
Alysha Umphress and Elizabeth Stanley will get "Carried Away" in the musical revival.
Casting for the lead female roles in the upcoming Broadway revival of On the Town has been announced.
Broadway veterans Alysha Umphress (American Idiot) and Elizabeth Stanley (Company) are set to take on the roles of cab driver Hildy and anthropologist Claire, respectively. Joining them will be New York City Ballet principal dancer Megan Fairchild, who will play Ivy Smith.
The trio joins the previously announced Tony Yazbeck, Jay Armstrong Johnson, and Clyde Alves as Gabey, Chip, and Ozzie, respectively, the sailors on shore leave who conquer Manhattan in 24 hours.
Umphress, Stanley, Yazbeck, Johnson, and Alves reprise roles they created in a summer 2013 production at Barrington Stage Company. John Rando, who helmed that staging, repeats his work at Broadway's Lyric Theatre, with Joshua Bergasse serving as choreographer. The Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins musical begins performances September 20, with opening night set for October 16.
