TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series Selections Announced

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) has announced the winning selections for its 2009 TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series, to be presented at the Players Theatre.

The Thing About Joe, with lyrics and book by Matthew Hardy and music by Randy Klein, will open the series on December 14 at 7pm. Directed by Tim Kashani, the musical centers on a man from Preston, Idaho, who rebels against his pill-pushing psychiatrist mother and journeys to New York to pursue unusual professional dreams.

On December 15 at 7pm, a new take on the fairy tale Rip Van Winkle, RIPPED!, will be presented. With book, music and lyrics by Dan Furman, additional lyrics by Mary-Liz McNamara, the reading will be directed by Igor Goldin. The final offering in the TRU series on December 21 at 7pm will be the Kafkaesque musical, The Arresting Dilemma of Mr K, with book by John Sparks and music and lyrics by Jon Steinhagen and direction by Christopher Carter Sanderson.
