Trista Moldovan to Be Broadway Phantom of the Opera‘s New Christine

Trista Moldovan will make her Broadway debut in the lead role of Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera, at the Majestic Theatre, beginning Friday, December 9. She replaces Sara Jean Ford, who will play her final performance as Christine on Saturday evening, December 3.

Moldovan has previously played her role in the national tour of Phantom, earning a Denver Ovation nomination as Best Actress. Her other stage credits include Cosette in Les Misérables, Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Louise in Gypsy, Sally in Cabaret, Sarah in Guys and Dolls, Billy Dawn in Born Yesterday, and Carla in Nine.

In related news, Heather McFadden will return to the role of Meg Giry beginning with the Monday, January 16 performance. She first played that role on Broadway in August of 2003. She succeeds Jessi Bishop, who will play her final performance as Meg on Saturday evening, January 14.

Based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart (with additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe), and book by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It has production design by the late Maria Björnson, lighting by Andrew Bridge, and sound by Martin Levan. Direction is by Harold Prince and musical staging and choreography is by Gillian Lynne. Orchestrations are by David Cullen and Andrew Lloyd Webber.


The cast will continue to feature Hugh Panaro (The Phantom), Kyle Barisich (Raoul), Michele McConnell (Carlotta), Aaron Galigan-Stierle (Monsieur André), Kevin Ligon (Monsieur Firmin), Christian Sêbek (Piangi), and Cristin J. Hubbard (Madame Giry). At certain performances, Marni Raab plays Christine.
