Tonya Pinkins to Star in London Caroline, or Change

Tonya Pinkins will re-create her award-winning role as Louisiana maid Caroline Thiodeaux in London’s National Theatre production of the Tony Kushner-Jeanine Tesori musical Caroline, or Change, to play the Lyttleon Theatre, October 10-January 4. George C. Wolfe, who directed the show’s Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, will helm the London outing, which opens officially on October 19.

The show will also star Valda Aviks, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Greg Bernstein, Angela M. Caesar, Ronald Chabvuica, Nora Cole, Louis Ekoku, Anna Francolini, Kuan Frye, Richard Henders, Jamal Hope, Ramona Keller, Ian Lavender, Joy Malcolm, Hilton McRae, Perry Millward, Malinda Parris, Natalya Roni, Clive Rowe, Jonny Weldon, and Mitchell Zhangazha.

Pinkins, who played the role at the Public Theatre and then on Broadway in 2004, received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for her performance, as well as the Lucille Lortel and Obie Awards. She is a Tony winner for Jelly’s Last Jam and currently plays Livia Frye Cudahy on the ABC daytime drama All My Children.
