Tony Award Winner Ron Silver Dies at 62

Actor Ron Silver, who won the Tony Award for his portrayal of Charlie Fox in the original Broadway production of Speed-the-Plow, died in New York City after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer, according to The Associated Press. He was 62.

Silver also appeared in the Broadway productions of Hurlyburly and Social Security. His Off-Broadway credits included And, Hunting Cockroaches, and Friends.

His many film and television credits included Jack, The West Wing, Veronica’s Closet, Kissinger and Nixon, The Stockard Channing Show, Billionaire Boys’ Club, and Semi-Tough.

Silver was also president of Actors’ Equity from 1991-2000, and was involved in many humanitarian and political causes, including The Creative Coalition.

He is survived by his two children.
