Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Color Purple) will join Idina Menzel (Wicked) in the Broadway-bound musical If/Then, producers have announced. Beginning previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre March 4 (with an opening set for March 27). The new production will play an out-of-town engagement at Washington DC’s National Theatre beginning November 5.

LaChanze, who has also been seen on Broadway in Ragtime and Once on this Island, will play Kate, an elementary school teacher and the new neighbor of Elizabeth (Menzel), a woman who moves back to New York City to reinvent her life as she turns 40.
