Fashion designer-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford’s debut film A Single Man, based on Christopher Isherwood’s novel, will be released later this year by The Weinstein Co for Oscar consideration, with a wide release scheduled for 2010, according to Variety.

The film, which stars Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, is set in the 1960s and focuses on a gay man trying to adjust to life without his partner.

Firth starred in the film version of Mamma Mia! and is best known for such movies as Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones’ Diary. Moore has appeared on stage in The Vertical Hour and Vanya on 42nd Street; she received Oscar nominations for Far From Heaven, The Hours, The End of the Affair, and Boogie Nights.
