TheaterMania to Present William Finn in Conversation With David Finkle at Ars Nova

Composer-lyricist William Finn will be interviewed by David Finkle, senior theater critic for TheaterMania.com, in the next program of the website’s continuing series of talks with theater professionals at Ars Nova. The event will take place on Sunday, January 9, from 12:30pm to 2pm. Finn will chat about his new musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which is set to begin previews at Second Stage on Tuesday, January 11 and to open on Monday, February 7.

Finn has indicated that he might sing at least one song during the program, “to prove I can sing.” He will also discuss his career, which includes Tony Award wins for the score and libretto of Falsettos. His most recent works are Elegies: A Song Cycle and A New Brain, which includes the new cabaret standard “Sailing.” Finn himself has headlined a Joe’s Pub revue of his material, and he will talk about his performing as well.

Directed by James Lapine, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has a book by Rachel Shenkin from Rebecca Feldman’s conception. Featured in the cast are Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Derrick Baskin, Deborah Craig; Dan Fogler, Lisa Howard, Celia Keenan-Bolger, José Llana, Jay Reiss, and Sarah Saltzberg. One pair of complimentary tickets to the show will be raffled at Ars Nova, to be won by a lucky audience member.
