Roger Bart is taking some time off from his role of Leo Bloom in the Broadway production of The Producers to film the SCI FI Channel's new miniseries The Lost Room in New Mexico.

Bart originated the role of Carmen Ghia in the show and eventually succeeded Matthew Broderick as Leo. He returned to the role on May 16. According to a production spokesperson, Bart missed a couple of performances this week but will be in the show this Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23. It is expected that his understudy will play Leo on Tuesday evening, July 25, and for both performances on Wednesday, July 26. Hunter Foster, who has previously played Bloom, will again assume the role on July 27.

The Lost Room, a six-hour miniseries scheduled to air in December, stars Peter Krause (TV's Six Feet Under, Broadway's After the Fall) as a homicide detective who stumbles upon a seemingly innocuous motel room key that unlocks the door to a world of unimaginable power. Bart plays the detective's major enemy. The cast also includes Elle Fanning as Krause's daughter.

Bart won a Tony Award for his performance as Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. He has also starred on Broadway in Big River, Triumph of Love, and The Frogs. His film and television credits include Desperate Housewives, The Stepford Wives, Bram and Alice, and the film version of The Producers.
