New York Children's Theater Festival has announced the program for its third season premiering this spring. The festival's founders, Michael Shawn Lewis, Chelsey Shannon, and Renee Barnett, selected a lineup of four original shows that include puppetry and modern retellings of classic tales.

Rescue Rue is a musical fairytale and puppet show that tells the story of a dog's journey from shelter to adoption. Viva Pinocho! A Mexican Pinocchio! also uses puppetry to tell the well-known tale using Mexican musical styles. In Cinderella, a Fairy God Mother's Tale, actors present a humorous take on the Cinderella story from the point-of-view of a fairy godmother in training. The final show of the season, Mythos, follows a young puppet who is led on a journey by an ancient Greek poet and is taught what we can all do to make the world a better place.

Festival cofounder Lewis said, "We continue to aim to bring audiences fresh, fun, smart family entertainment and give the experience of incredible live theater to as many children as possible, while we provide a strong venue for writers and producers to showcase their work."

Performances will take place at The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater. Tickets go on sale in the spring.
