The New Victory Theater to Present U.S. Premieres of Saltbush and The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk
Both productions will feature onstage seating.
The New Victory Theater has announced plans to present two U.S. premieres in its 2014 season: Saltbush will run from May 30-June 8, and The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk, from June 13-22. For both shows, audiences will be seated onstage.
Saltbush, from Compagnia T.P.O. and Insite Arts, is a trek across the Australian outback. Kids will discover the language and music of the region's indigenous culture as they join the performers on a digitally interactive surface that responds to their movements in real time. The production is directed by Davide Venturini and Jason Cross.
In The Ballad of Pondlife McGurk, from Catherine Wheels Theater Company, Martin and the quiet Simon McGurk spend every day together until Martin's gift for soccer and a disastrous class field trip complicate their once simple friendship. Andy Manley plays every character in this coming-of-age story by Manley, Rob Evans, and Gill Robertson.
