The New Group’s world premiere of David Rabe’s An Early History of Fire will now open on Monday, April 30 instead of the previously announced April 23. The delay is due to the large number of other shows — including many Broadway productions — that will open that same week.

Jo Bonney is directing the Off-Broadway production of An Early History of Fire, which will perform at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row, through May 26.

The play is set in a small Midwestern town at the tipping point of the early 1960s. A few years out of high school, Danny finds his days defined by friendship and loyalty — but a confusing new world encroaches in the form of Karen, back from college in the East, alluring and unsettling because of all she has learned.

Theo Stockman and Claire van der Boom will star as Danny and Karen, with the cast also featuring Deema Aitken, Gordon Clapp, Erin Darke, Jonny Orsini, Devin Ratray, and Dennis Staroselsky.

The production will feature set design by Neil Patel, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, costume design by Theresa Squire, and sound design by Ken Travis.
