The Lion King to Surpass Oh! Calcutta! to Become 6th Longest-Running Broadway Show

The Lion King is set to surpass Oh! Calcutta! to become the 6th longest-running show in Broadway history when it plays its 5,960th performance at 2pm on March 14 at the Minskoff Theatre.

Julie Taymor and designer Michael Curry have created hundreds of masks and puppets for The Lion King, which depict the anthropomorphic animal characters. The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s music from The Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice.

Translated into seven different languages, the show has been performed in 15 different countries on five continents. The Lion King can currently be seen on Broadway, on stages across North America, on tour in Japan, and in Tokyo, London’s West End, Hamburg and Madrid.
