The Off-Broadway production of Charles Busch’s The Divine Sister will conclude its run at the Soho Playhouse on May 1. The show will have run for 253 performances and 9 previews.

Carl Andress has directed the production, which stars Busch as the Mother Superior, and features Alison Fraser, Amy Rutberg, Jennifer Van Dyck, Jonathan Walker, and Julie Halston. As previously reported, Marcy McGuigan will take over the roles currently played by Fraser on April 9.

The play is a comic homage to nearly every Hollywood film involving nuns. It tells the story of St. Veronica’s indomitable Mother Superior who is determined to build a new school for her Pittsburgh convent. Along the way, she has to deal with a young postulant who is experiencing “visions,” sexual hysteria among her nuns, a sensitive schoolboy in need of mentoring, a mysterious nun visiting from the Mother House in Berlin, and a former suitor intent on luring her away from her vows.

The production features scenic and graphic design by B.T. Whitehill, costume design by Fabio Toblini, lighting design by Kirk Bookman, sound design by Jill BC DuBoff, wig design by Katherine Carr, and original music by Lewis Flinn.
