The Amoralists to Present Off-Broadway Premiere of Derek Ahonen’s Amerissiah

Derek Ahonen’s comedy Amerissiah will receive its Off-Broadway premiere from the theater company The Amoralists, to perform at Theatre 80 St. Marks, June 3-28, with an opening set for June 5. Ahonen will direct.

The play, revolving around a dying man who is convinced he’s God, is an American ghost story about the thin line between ambition and corruption, faith and insanity. Amerissiah had an Off-Off-Broadway run at the Gene Frankel Theatre in 2008.

The cast will include William Apps, Selene Berreta, Jennifer Fouche, James Kautz, Nick Lawson, Sarah Lemp, Matthew Pilieci, Aysha Quinn and George Walsh. The design team will include Alfred Schatz (set), Jeremy Pape (lighting), Bart Lucas (sound design), and Ricky Lang (costumes).

Ahonen is the resident playwright of The Amoralists Theatre Company, and his work with the company includes Happy In The Poorhouse, The Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side, While Chasing The Fantastic, The Hey You Monster Part One: Pokin The Bears In A Zoo and Part Two: Bring Us The Head Of Your Daughter.
