Tony Nominee Sydney Lucas Cast in AMC Drama Series The Son
Lucas earned a Tony nomination for her performance as Small Alison in Broadway's Fun Home.
Sydney Lucas, best known for her Tony-nominated performance in Fun Home, has been cast in the new AMC drama series The Son, according to a Deadline report.
Based on the book by Philipp Meyer, The Son is described as "a multi-generational epic tale of the story of America's birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family." Production on the 10-episode series will begin in Austin, Texas, in June for a 2017 premiere.
The Son, from Sonar Entertainment and producer Michael Connolly, will star Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders) as Eli, the patriarch of the McCullough family: "As a child, he was kidnapped and raised among the Comanche Native American tribe and applies the brutal Comanche worldview to his business dealings. He was born on the day Texas became an independent Republic, earning the nickname 'First Son of Texas.'"
The cast also features Zahn McClarnon (Fargo) as Toshaway, a Comanche war chief who captures young Eli and becomes his father figure; Paola Nunez (Reina de corazones) as Maria Garcia, whose family is the last of the wealthy Spanish aristocracy in South Texas; and Henry Garrett (Poldark) as Pete McCullough, Eli's eldest son. Lucas will play Jeannie McCullough, Pete's strong-willed tomboy daughter, who "rejects her fate of existing solely to marry well and bear children."
