Presented by the New York-based Spanish theater company, La Strada Company, the work features an adaptation by Gerard Vazquez. It centers on the street entertainer Zampano who offers money to a poor woman in exchange for her daughter Gelsomina, a young woman whose innocence borders on mental retardation. Together they set out on a journey through several villages, eventually joining a traveling circus.
The cast will feature Nanda Abella, Israel Ruiz, Luis Carlos de La Lombana, Winston Estevez, Adela Maria Bolet and Jennifer Harder.
The creative team will include Audrey Crabtree (clown consultant), Mike Yahn (stage choreographer), Zulema Clares (music consultant), Jason Sturm ( production designer), Kanako Hiyama (costume designer), and Betsy Pujols (super-titles).
The play will be performed in Spanish with English super-titles.
La Strada received two HOLA Awards for Excellence in Theater, winning for Buch and Merced's direction and Ruiz's featured performance as The Fool.
