Award-winning PBS writer and performer Slash Coleman and internationally renowned Indian musician Kumar Das will present the world premiere of The Shalom Bombay Show, as a part of the 2012 Dream Up Festival in NYC. This story of two cousins from two tribes with two jazz instruments and two stories will run August 28-September 2 at the Theater for The New City.

Directed by Barbara Alipranis, The Shalom Bombay Show features the personal stories of cousins from completely different backgrounds and interpretations of those stories through jazz piano and Indian tabla. Set against the backdrop of small towns in Bangladesh and Virginia in the 70’s, the performers explore the mainstream obsession with the mysticism of India while demystifying Jewish culture and Indian culture.

Packed with drama, poetry, music, and dance, the third annual Dream Up Festival takes place August 19-September 19 in New York City’s East Village.
