2011 Olivier nominee Sierra Boggess will join the previously reported Tony Award winner Tyne Daly in the Broadway revival of Terrence McNally’s Master Class, to begin performances on May 24 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in anticipation of an official opening on June 21. Stephen Wadsworth will direct the production. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The play focuses on Maria Callas (Daly) and her famous master classes where, late in her own career, she challenges the next generation to make the same sacrifices and dare to rise to the same heights she did. Boggess will play Sharon, a singer in Callas’ Julliard master class (and the role originated by Audra McDonald in the original production).

The creative team will include Thomas Lynch (scenic design), Martin Pakledinaz (costume design), David Lander (lighting design), and Jon Gottlieb (sound design).

Boggess is currently starring as Christine Daae in the London production of the Phantom sequel, Love Never Dies, for which she was recently nominated for an Olivier Award. She received Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her starring role as Ariel in the Broadway production of The Little Mermaid.

Daly played her role, under Wadsworth’s direction, at the Kennedy Center in 2010. She won the Tony Award for Gypsy, and her many stage credits include Rabbit Hole, The Seagull, and Me, Myself, and I. She is well-known for her Emmy Award-winning roles on Judging Amy and Cagney & Lacey.
