Sierra Boggess, Stephen Schwartz, and More to Honor Alan Menken at York Theatre Gala

The York Theatre Company will honor prolific stage and screen composer Alan Menken (Newsies) at its 22nd annual Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala on Monday, Dec. 9, at theHudson Theatre. Menken will be honored with the Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre.

The evening will be hosted by Tony nominee Norm Lewis (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) and feature performances from Broadway veterans Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid), Liz Callaway (Miss Saigon), Beth Fowler (Beauty and the Beast), Debbie Gravitte (Jerome Robbins' Broadway), as well as composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked). More performers will be announced at a later date.

York Chairman of the Board W. David McCoy will also be presented with the York Theatre Company Founder's Award to honor his "significant long-term contributions to the theatre and his lifelong commitment to sustaining the arts," according to press notes.

Alice Hammerstein Mathias is scheduled to make a special appearance. The evening will be directed by Scott H. Mauro, with musical direction by Andrew Gerle.
