Sarah Jessica Parker is set to star in and executive-produce a new HBO pilot, Divorce, according to Hollywood trade paper Variety. It will be Parker's first foray back into television since Sex and the City ended in 2004.

The half-hour comedy explores the story of a very drawn-out divorce. Parker will play Frances, half of the divorcing couple, who realizes that getting a fresh start is harder than she expected. Her on-screen husband will be played by Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways).

Additional casting for the pilot includes Molly Shannon (Promises, Promises) as Frances' childless friend, Diane, and Talia Balsam (Mad Men) as Dallas, a widow and divorcée.

Sharon Horgan and Paul Simms wrote the pilot and also serve as executive producers alongside Parker, Alison Benson, and Aaron Kaplan. Jesse Peretz directs. The project is developed by HBO Original Programming, Kapital Entertainment, Pretty Matches Productions, and Merman Films.

Parker was last seen onstage in Manhattan Theatre club's 2013 production of Amanda Peet's drama The Commons of Pensacola.
