San Francisco’s A.C.T. Sets 2007-2008 Season

San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre has announced its 2007-2008 season. As previously announced, it will begin with John Doyle’s adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical Sweeney Todd, August 30-September 30. Doyle won the Tony Award, among other honors, for the show’s 2005 Broadway staging.

That show will be followed by Mark Rucker’s production of N. Richard Nash’s classic drama The Rainmaker (October 25-November 25), an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, starring James Carpenter as Scrooge (December 5-23), David Mamet’s Hollywood satire Speed-the-Plow (January 4-February 3), Athol Fugard’s provocative drama The Blood Knot (February 8-March 9), Nikolai Gogol’s comedy The Government Inspector (March 20-April 20), Sam Shepard’s dark comedy The Curse of the Starving Class (April 25-May 25), and John Ford’s 17th-century play ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore (June 5-July 6).

The company will also present two special events: a staging of The Tosca Project by artistic director Carey Perloff and Val Caniparoli, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, October 26-28; and Jose Rivera’s new play Brainpeople, January 26-February 16 at the Zeum Theater.
