S. Epatha Merkerson to Receive 2009 Matrix Award logo

S. Epatha Merkerson will be among the recipients of a 2009 Matrix Award, honoring extraordinary achievements of outstanding women in the Communications Industry. The award will be presented to her by Jeff Zucker, President and CEO of NBC Universal, at a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria on April 27 beginning at 11 am.

Honorees will also include Linda Sawyer, Campbell Brown, Dana Levy, Linda Wells, Sherrie Rollins Westin, Monica Langley, and Leslee Dart. Celebrity presenters will include actors Julianne Moore and Tom Hanks.

Merkerson received Tony Award nominations for her performances in Come Back, Little Sheba and The Piano Lesson. Her many other stage credits include A, Birdie Blue, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, and The Old Settler. She won the Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards for the HBO film Lackawanna Blues, and is best known for her long-running role as Lt. Anita Van Buren on Law & Order.
