Stage and screen favorite S. Epatha Merkerson will be honored by A.R.T./New York at the organization's annual spring gala, to be held Monday, April 3, at Tribeca Rooftop. The evening will include a mini-musical created in tribute to Merkerson, titled S. Epatha Merkerson: The Musical!

Merkerson is best known for her portrayal of Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on NBC's Law & Order, and currently stars as hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin on NBC's Chicago Med. She received Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for her performance in the HBO film Lackawanna Blues. Onstage, Merkerson's extensive résumé includes Come Back, Little Sheba and The Piano Lesson, for which she received Tony nominations, as well as Birdie Blue, F*cking A, and While I Yet Live, among others.
