Roundabout Postpones Broadway Lips Together, Teeth Apart Following Departure of Megan Mullally

The Roundabout Theatre Company has postponed its planned Broadway production of Terrence McNally’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart. As previously reported, Emmy Award winner Megan Mullally withdrew from the production yesterday, an act which playwright McNally called “devastating.”

The production was being directed by Joe Mantello, and also starred Patton Oswalt, Lili Taylor, and David Wilson Barnes. McNally’s play, originally seen Off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club, takes place on the deck of a beach house on Fire Island, where a brother and sister and their respective spouses attempt to celebrate the Fourth of July with a gnawing uncertainty about their lives and their futures.

The Roundabout’s artistic director Todd Haimes said in a statement, “We could not find a way to maintain the production schedule under these circumstances. We are now exploring options to produce a show for our subscribers as soon as possible.”
