The Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof will play its last performance at the Minskoff Theatre on January 8, 2006, having played 817 performances.

The show, directed by David Leveaux, opened on Broadway on February 26, 2004 with Alfred Molina as Tevye and Randy Graff as Golde. Despite mixed reviews, it earned six Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Molina and John Cariani (who played Motel the Tailor) also received nominations.

Tony Award winners Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin took over the lead roles on January 4, 2005. Fierstein will remain with the show until the end. Martin left on Sunday, July 31 and has been replaced by her understudy, Lori Wilner.

There had been speculation on the Internet that Rosie O’Donnell would take over the role of Golde after the departure of Martin, who will be seen this fall in the Huntington Theater’s production of The Sisters Rosensweig.
