Rob McClure and Jennifer Bowles Tap Their Inner Parisians in Irma La Douce at New York City Center

Encores! opens the last musical of its 2014 season this evening.

Irma La Douce, the final production of the 2014 Encores! season, begins performances tonight at New York City Center, where it will enjoy a short run through Sunday, May 11.

Tony Award winner John Doyle directs this unconventional Encores! selection as its first musical offering not written on American soil. The production features music by Marguerite Monnot and an English book and lyrics by Julian More, David Heneker, and Monty Norman, with original book and lyrics by Alexandre Breffort.

The show follows Irma La Douce (Jennifer Bowles), a successful Parisian prostitute who wins the heart of poor law student Nestor Le Fripé (Tony nominee Rob McClure). Growing jealous of her many clients, he disguises himself as a rich older man.

The Encores! cast also features Sam Bolen, Ben Crawford, Stephen DeRosa, Malcolm Gets, Zachary James, Ken Krugman, and Chris Sullivan, with Joseph Medeiros, Joseph Simeone, Manuel Stark, and Caleb Teicher. Take a look at a few scenes of the cast in action on the New York City Center stage.
