The Vineyard Theatre has announced its selections for its 2012-13 season.

The season will begin on October 3 with the world premiere production of Douglas McGrath’s play Checkers, to be directed by Terry Kinney. The work is set in 1952 when Richard M. Nixon was campaigning for the vice presidency and delivered his so-called “Checkers” speech addressing allegations of financial improprieties.

Up next in February 2013 will be Rajiv Joseph’s The North Pool about a showdown between a high school vice-principal and a transfer student who was born in the Middle East. Giovanna Sardelli will direct the production.

It will be followed on May 1 with Jenny Schwartz’s new play, Somewhere Fun, about two adult New Yorkers who are facing the fears and surprises of later life, to be directed by Anne Kauffman.

In addition, the theater will produce a new developmental project by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. And in fall 2013, it will present a full production of John Kander and Greg Pierce’s new musical The Landing, which received a developmental production at the Vineyard. That production starred Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce and was directed by Walter Bobbie, both of whom are expected to return for this production.
