Queens Theatre in the Park Celebrates Latino Culture
Queens Theatre in the Park begins its 6th Annual Latino Cultural Festival on July 24, bringing artists and performance groups from Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. together to celebrate their cultural heritage through music, dance, and theater.
From July 24 through August 11, nearly 30 events will take place at both the QTP's 464-seat venue and its 99-seat Studio Theatre. Tropical, salsa, folk music, and Cuban jazz are a few of the sounds that will be provided by participants like Argentinean rock star Spinetta, singer Alberto Cortez, and Danilo Perez. The one woman show La Mujer Invisible will receive its United States premiere, Ballet Folclorico de Chile will dance up a storm, and "Teatro Hugo & Ines" will entertain with their amazing puppetry. A showing of three Spanish and Portuguese language movies will also be a part of the celebration.
Potentially most exciting of all is a work commissioned by QTP especially for this event: "La Presa," a bi-national collaborative dance project created by artists from Mexico and the U.S., will have its world premiere at this year's festival.
