Pulitzer Prize Winner Frank McCourt Dies at 78

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt died earlier today of metastatic melanoma, according to published reports. He was 78.

McCourt was the author of the musical play, The Irish and How They Got That Way, and with his brother Malachy, created and performed in A Couple of Blaguards. He is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, Angela’s Ashes, about his childhood in Brooklyn and Ireland. He also wrote two other autobiographical novels, ‘Tis and Teacher Man.

He is survived by his wife Ellen Frey McCourt, his daughter Maggie from his first marriage, three of his brothers (including Malachy), and three grandchildren.
