On Wednesday, March 2, The Broadway cast and creative team of
Sister Act gave members of the press a sneak peak at the upcoming show, which begins previews at the Broadway Theatre on March 24 before an official opening on April 20. Four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks is directing the production. Actress Whoopi Goldberg. who starred in the film’s
Sister Act and
Sister Act 2, is one of the show’s producers.
The musical, which is based on the film of the same name, tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva put into protective custody in a convent after she runs away from her gangster boyfriend.
The show features an original score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner with additional material from Douglas Carter Beane, and choreography by Anthony Van Laast.
The company features Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, Victoria Clark as Mother Superior, Fred Applegate as Monsignor, Sarah Bolt as Sister Mary Patrick, John Treacy Egan as Joey, Demond Green as TJ, Chester Gregory as Eddie, Kingsley Leggs as Curtis, Marla Mindelle as Sister Mary Robert, Audrie Neenan as Sister Mary Lazarus, and Caesar Samayoa as Pablo.
