On Thursday, October 22, the Broadway production of Eric Simonson’s
Lombardi opened at the
Circle in the Square Theatre. The production is directed by Thomas Kail.
The play, which is based on the best-selling biography When Pride Still Mattered, written by David Maraniss, tells the life and times of one of America’s most inspirational and mercurial personalities: legendary football coach Vince Lombardi.
The cast features Dan Lauria in the title role, along with Judith Light, Keith Nobbs, Bill Dawes, Robert Christopher Riley, and Chris Sullivan.
Opening night guests included actors Kate Baldwin, Stephanie J. Block, Angela Christian, Tyne Daly, Rachel Dratch, Katie Finneran, Jack Klugman, Tony LoBianco, Wendie Malick, Max Minghella, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sarah Paulson, and Michael Urie, as well as such football greats as Stephen Baker, Jim Taylor, Chuck Mercein, and Dave Robinson, and other luminaries from the sports world.
