Same-sex puppets Rod and Ricky, from the musical Avenue Q, now performing Off-Broadway at New World Stages, were married in a ceremony on Sunday, July 24 in Thomas Paine Park, across the street from the City Clerk’s office where hundreds of couples lined up for the first day of legal wedlock for same-sex couples in New York.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Flower Girl Kate Monster, and human puppeteers and Avenue Q veterans Jennifer Barnhart, Jed Resnick and Howie Michael Smith. The ceremony was officiated by Amy Hausman.
In Avenue Q, Rod, a Wall Street banker, and Ricky, a “Chelsea boy,” meet through an online personal ad placed by Rod’s best friend and slacker roommate Nicky.
