Stage and screen star
Vanessa Williams was honored by The Trevor Project at its 10th annual East Coast fundraising gala, which was held at Capitale in New York City, on Monday, June 28.
The Trevor Project was founded by James Lecesne, Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone. It is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. The gala also honored Macy’s, Inc.
Celebrity guests included Dustin Lance Black, Justin Bond, Mark Consuelos, Rachael Harris, Jason Mraz, Arden Myrin, Ana Ortiz, Kelly Ripa, Mike Ruiz, Ally Sheedy, and B.D. Wong.
Williams received a Tony nomination for her performance in the revival of Into the Woods, and has also starred on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman, and most recently, the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Sondheim on Sondheim.
She received three consecutive Emmy Award nominations for her role as Wilhelmina Slater on ABC’s Ugly Betty, and is also a top-selling recording artist and a former Miss America. As previously reported, she will join the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives next season.
