Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ 24th annual Easter Bonnet Competition was held at the Minskoff Theatre on Monday, April 26 at 4:30pm and Tuesday, April 27 at 2pm. In total, $3,265,700 was raised for the organization by over 55 shows in a six-week period.
The show featured special numbers and parade of bonnets hand-crafted by the casts and crews of such shows as Billy Elliot, Fela!, In the Heights, La Cage Aux Folles, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Memphis, Million Dollar Quartet, My Trip Down the Pink Carpet, Next Fall, The Phantom of the Opera, South Pacific, Wicked, and Zero Hour, as well as Dancers Responding to AIDS and R. Evolucion Latina. In addition, the opening number, a tribute to Lady Gaga, was headlined by Celina Carvajal and Stephanie Gibson.
The awards for Fundraising, Bonnet Design, and Bonnet Presentation were presented by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Nathan Lane, and Bebe Neuwirth. The award for Best Bonnet went to the company of Fela!. Best Bonnet Presentation was given to Memphis, with Next Fall named runner-up.
