Petronia Paley to Direct Kernel of Sanity for New Federal Theatre

Petronia Paley will direct the New Federal Theatre’s Off-Broadway premiere of Kermit Frazier’s Kernel of Sanity, to be presented at Henry Street Settlement’s Abrons Arts Center/Recital Hall, April 9-May 3, with an opening set for April 16.

Set in a small Midwestern city in the late 1970s, the play centers on a young actor who confronts a veteran actor, leading to a clash over contradictory senses of marginalization and betrayal.

The cast will include Madeleine James, Joel Nagle, and Chaz Reuben. The creative team will feature Pavlo Bosyy (set), Ali Turns (costumes), Shirley Prendergast (lighting), and Sean O’Halloran (sound).

Paley’s directing credits include Medea, The I the Actor Showcases, How Many Good Byes Must We Say, Julia de Burgos, and Can We Dance. She wrote and performed On the Way to Timbuktu and her acting credits also include stage productions of On Golden Pond, Electra, Hamlet, Relativity, The Revenger’s Tragedy, and The Cherry Orchard. She is well known to daytime television viewers for her roles as Vivian Grant on Guiding Light and Quinn Harding on Another World. She is also the author of a numerous plays and children’s book.
